Benchmade makes some really awesome knives. Fit and finish has always been superb. Back when Emerson was the big thing I had a benchmade. I still have it and even though most of the black is worn off it is still just as solid as the day I got it. i am a real big fan of the classic nesmuk setup. Hatchet, sheath knife and swiss army folder.
Oct 10, 2020. #1. Ended up with a Benchmade Bugout in S30V. Many stainless knives are a little soft for my liking, 60rc is my minimum, I was happy to find that the BO was 60.5rc for 3 readings. I went to touch up the knife today before a bear hunt and quickly realized that S30V is not the easiest steels to sharpen.
Crooked River , Crooked River mini , Bugout , Bugout mini , a few fixed blades from the hunting line. All nice looking knives but the price just doesn’t seem to reflect the product to me. I’ve had a few Benchmade in the past and they were decent knives but not $180-$300+ decent they are charging for them now.
Tops puukko is a nice knife. When compared to the 200 the Tanimboca has a better handle and better balance in my opinion. The Benchmade has better steel. That said 1095 will do everything you need - I don't know how 3V is practically better in terms of daily use. 3v stays sharp significantly longer.
Northern FL. Nov 12, 2011. #8. Get the ESEE. I had a Benchmade Pikka folder, it was nicely fit and well designed, but the steel was junk, hard to sharpen and wouldn't hold an edge. The tip also acualy BENT when I tried to use it to remove a stuck shell casing from a .22 rifle.
Benchmade knives are great knives that will serve you well. They do have some in the $200 & up range, but as others have said, they have lots of choices well under that too. For a production knife, they are top notch. Benchmade also typically has great customer service which is another plus for me.
Chapel Hill, NC. Feb 8, 2017. #5. I have knives in both D2 and s30v. Both will take a wicked edge. For me, both steels hold edges for crazy lengths of time. D2 doesn't have the over-all toughness as a super steel but holds its edge on par with them. D2 needs a microbevel as it is prone to micro chipping.
For about four months now I have been using the Benchmade 162 Bushcrafter. Here is the specs on it: Blade Length: 4.43". Blade Thickness: 0.164". Handle Thickness: 0.920". Blade Material: S30V Stainless Steel. Blade Hardness: 58-60HRC. Blade Style: High Ground Drop-Point. Weight: 7.72oz.
Oct 23, 2021. #1. To be completely honest I had an extreme bias against anything that said benchmade on it. I swore I would never own one and I would never use one due to Benchmade’s position on gun control at the time. Fast forward several years and I find myself with a brand new in the box 162 bushcrafter and a slightly used bark River Bravo.
The Benchmade puukko is a similar thickness, but with a much higher grind. Which makes me happy. That said, while it came nice and sharp like Benchmades always seem to, I thought the secondary grind kinda sucked and tweaked it with sandpaper. Its much better now and takes a very fine edge.
