The Lord Mayor of Leeds (until 1897 known as the Mayor of Leeds) is a ceremonial post held by a member of Leeds City Council, elected annually by the council. By charter from King Charles I in 1626, the leader of the governing body of the borough of Leeds was an alderman, the first holder being Sir John Savile . [ 1 ]

As well as acting as the chair of the council, the Lord Mayor represents the City of Leeds at events within and outside the city. The 2022 Leeds City Council election took place on Thursday 5 May 2022 to elect members of Leeds City Council in England. It was held on the same day as other local elections across the United Kingdom. As per the election cycle, one third of the council's 99 seats were contested alongside two casual vacancies in the Horsforth and Roundhay wards.
