Mobile Opera is an opera company located in Mobile, Alabama and is one of the oldest performing arts organizations in the United States, [1] as well as the oldest in the State of Alabama, having been founded as the "Mobile Opera Guild" in 1945.
In 1996, the organization's board began planning the development of a full-time professional orchestra to permanently reside in Mobile. In 1997, the name of the company was changed to "Mobile Symphony, Inc," and in 1998 the orchestra held its first concert season. The Symphony's first and current music director, Scott Speck, was named in 2000.
Mobile Civic Center (formerly Mobile Municipal Auditorium) is a multi-purpose facility located in Mobile, Alabama.
