Since La Salle, Ateneo and UE finished the eliminations with identical 10-4 cards, the quotient system was used. La Salle emerged with the best quotient among the three, so UE and Ateneo figured for a one-game playoff for the third seed. The winner will face the second seed, while the loser will face the first seed.
Both UP and La Salle won the semifinals match-ups, setting up a rematch from last year's finals. For the fourth consecutive season, the men's basketball finals series lasted 3 games - the longest so far for the tournament in UAAP Final Four history. UP defeated La Salle to win their 4th men's championship.
With a 14–0 sweep giving them a bye up to the best-of-3 finals, La Salle won their first thirteen games; their last game was against arch rival Ateneo. The two teams were locked 43–all when Wesley Gonzales, Rich Alvarez, Larry Fonacier and Andrew Cruz engineered a 21–3 run to put Ateneo up 64–46 with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter.

This is the first meeting between UP and La Salle in the semifinals in UAAP men's basketball history. UP is on its third straight playoffs appearance, and its second consecutive tournament with the twice-to-beat advantage. La Salle returned to the semifinals for the first time since 2017 after missing out in the past two tournaments.
The NU Lady Bulldogs 108-game winning streak was snapped in the elimination round by the De La Salle Lady Archers, but NU still won in the Finals against La Salle to win their 7th consecutive title. The high school boys' tournament began on January 15, 2023, for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic .
