Dooly County is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia.As of the 2020 census, the population was 11,208. [1] The county seat is Vienna. [2] The county was created by an act of the Georgia General Assembly on May 15, 1821, and named for Colonel John Dooly, [3] a Georgia American Revolutionary War fighter.
The system is also home to the second oldest Carnegie library in Georgia, located in Cordele. [2] LBRLS is a member of PINES, a program of the Georgia Public Library Service that covers 53 library systems in 143 counties of Georgia. [3] Any resident in a PINES supported library system has access to the system's collection of 10.6 million books. [4]

Vienna was founded in 1826 as the seat of Dooly County as Berrien. Its name was later changed to Drayton. The county seat moved to Drayton (it retained the same name), Georgia along the Flint River (Georgia) in 1836. It was later re-designated county seat in 1841. It was incorporated as a town in 1854 and as a city in 1901. [8]
