In 2017, the team began exploring a logo redesign. The team hired a Hattiesburg, Mississippi, company called RARE Design to develop a new logo. The company selected the ball-in-glove logo, noting "how devoted fans still were to that symbol". The logo was released in 2020 to commemorate the team's 50th-anniversary celebration. [7]
The logo, embedded in the grass, still remains off the highway to this day. In 2014, popular sports uniform evaluation blog Uni Watch made an observation that throughout the team's history there has been an inconsistency in the usage of the logo regarding the letter "C" in "KC". In some usages the "C" has an open face, and in others it is closed.

The team switched to green helmets and a simpler uniform design in 1978, replacing the football-shaped logo with a modernized wordmark, then in 1990 added black trim and green pants. In 1998 the team reverted to its "classic" look, with an updated version of the prior logo, and replaced the traditional kelly green with a darker hunter green.
The primary logo, created in 1946 by sports artist Henry Alonzo Keller, [3] consists of "Yankees" against a baseball, written in red script with a red bat forming the vertical line of the K, an Uncle Sam hat hanging from the barrel. The logo was slightly changed over the years, with the current version first appearing in the 1970s.
The slanted "Lakers" wordmark and drop-shadowed numbers were taken from the 1967–86 uniforms, while powder blue trim and white stars represented the team's Minneapolis years. On the shorts, the full team name shaped into a triangle was a nod to the early 1960s logo, and the current "L" alternate logo on the waist was a nod to the Kobe Bryant era.
