Osamu Dazai (Japanese: 太宰 治, Hepburn: Osamu Dazai) is a fictional character featured in the manga series Bungo Stray Dogs, written by Kafka Asagiri and drawn by Sango Harukawa. He is a member of the Armed Detective Agency who mentors the protagonist, Atsushi Nakajima , into his group while dealing with other enemies facing them.
While never outright stated in the series, Lovecraft hints that his "ability," The Great Old Ones (旧支配者, Kyū Shihai-sha), is not an actual ability, as Dazai is unable to nullify it. When fully activated, The Great Old Ones turns Lovecraft into a powerful tentacled eldritch monster that can only be damaged from the inside.
Dazai uses his own skill to stop the tiger and invites Atsushi to join their group. As a test, Atsushi stops two members from the agency from destroying the headquarters. After passing a test, Atsushi works with the siblings Junichirō and Naomi Tanizaki to assist a young woman, Ichiyō Higuchi.
