The first university level lecture in the field of electrical engineering in Serbia was held in 1894. Professor Stevan Marković was the first lecturer and founder of Electrical Engineering Chair within the Engineering department of the Belgrade Higher School. In 1898, Marković also founded the first electrical engineering laboratory in Serbia.
The Faculty of Engineering is a constituent body of the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia. UNSW was formed on 1 July 1949, and the Faculty was established on 8 May 1950 with the inaugural meeting of the Faculty taking place on 7 June 1950.

Professor Stevan Marković was the first lecturer and founder of the Engineering Department at the Higher School. Only four years later, Professor Marković also established the first Serbian electrical engineering laboratory. [7] Since then, this academic discipline has been studied at the Higher School and the University of Belgrade.
