Originally Tullamore Courthouse had been the meeting place of Offaly County Council. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The county council moved to modern facilities, which were designed by ABK Architects , in 2002. Tullamore (/ ˈ t ʊ l ə ˌ m ɔːr /; Irish: Tulach Mhór, meaning 'great mound') is the county town of County Offaly in Ireland.It is on the Grand Canal, in the middle of the county, and is the fourth most populous town in the Midlands Region, with 15,598 inhabitants at the 2022 census.
The building, which was designed by John B. Keane in the neoclassical style and built in ashlar stone, was completed in 1833. [1] The design involved a symmetrical main frontage facing Cormac Street; there was a flight of steps leading up to a large hexastyle portico with Ionic order columns supporting an entablature and a modillioned pediment.

The building was converted for municipal use at a cost of £450,000, and then re-opened by the Minister for Labour, Brian Cowen, as Tullamore Town Hall on 22 June 1992. [ 8 ] [ 9 ] The building continued to be used as the offices of the urban district council until 2002, and then as the offices of the successor town council.
