In 1796 Gauss proved his Eureka theorem that every positive integer n is the sum of 3 triangular numbers; this is equivalent to the fact that 8n + 3 is a sum of three squares. In 1797 or 1798 A.-M. Legendre obtained the first proof of his 3 square theorem. [4]

In 1796 Gauss proved his Eureka theorem that every positive integer n is the sum of 3 triangular numbers; this is trivially equivalent to the fact that 8n+3 is a sum of 3 squares. I would understand this sentence so that if one has a 3-triangular composition of n, we can determine a 3-square composition of 8n+3 and vice versa.
Euler proved Newton's identities, Fermat's little theorem, Fermat's theorem on sums of two squares, and made distinct contributions to the Lagrange's four-square theorem. He also invented the totient function φ(n) which assigns to a positive integer n the number of positive integers less than n and coprime to n.
Proof without words of the Nicomachus theorem (Gulley (2010)) that the sum of the first n cubes is the square of the n th triangular number. In mathematics, a proof without words (or visual proof) is an illustration of an identity or mathematical statement which can be demonstrated as self-evident by a diagram without any accompanying explanatory text.
Of the primes occurring in this decomposition, 2, 5, and 7, only 7 is congruent to 3 modulo 4. Its exponent in the decomposition, 2, is even. Therefore, the theorem states that it is expressible as the sum of two squares. Indeed, 2450 = 7 2 + 49 2. The prime decomposition of the number 3430 is 2 · 5 · 7 3. This time, the exponent of 7 in the ...

It follows that y 1 2 + y 2 2 + y 3 2 + y 4 2 = mr, for some strictly positive integer r less than m. Finally, another appeal to Euler's four-square identity shows that mpmr = z 1 2 + z 2 2 + z 3 2 + z 4 2. But the fact that each x i is congruent to its corresponding y i implies that all of the z i are divisible by m.
