The last PCC streetcars built for any North American system were a batch of 25 for the San Francisco Municipal Railway, manufactured by St. Louis and delivered in 1951–2. [19] A total of 4,586 PCC cars were purchased by United States transit companies: 1,057 by Pullman Standard and 3,534 by St. Louis.
The first order for PCCs (class PC-1, later renamed as A-1) was placed in March 1938 for 140 air-electric cars. At this time, this was the largest PCC order placed to date in North America, although it would be surpassed by a later order from Chicago. They replaced 27 wooden former TRC cars and 30 3-door class Q "Harvey" trailers.
The trailer bike was patented by Canadian entrepreneur Delbert Adams in 1987. [2] [3] Adams started the manufacturer of trailer bikes, Trail-a-Bike, and began selling them in the early 1990s, [4] although the same concept had been previously independently and imitatively invented by others at least as far back as the 1930s with the Rann Trailer.
