Wealden is a local government district in East Sussex, England.Its council is based in Hailsham, the district's second largest town.The district also includes the towns of Crowborough, Polegate and Uckfield, along with numerous villages and surrounding rural areas.

The civil parish council has twenty one elected members representing four wards: Cross-in-Hand ward (three members); Heathfield East ward (two); Heathfield ward (fourteen); Waldron (two). The current (2016) chairman is Mr Andy Woolley. Huw Merriman is the Member of Parliament for the Battle and Bexhill Constituency, which includes Heathfield.
By the 1960s the council again needed more space and so the current County Hall was built. Southover House was sold to Lewes District Council in 1998. Laughton is a village and civil parish in the Wealden district of East Sussex, England. The village is located five miles (8 km) east of Lewes, at a junction on the minor road to Hailsham (B2124). It appears in the Domesday Book, and there are Roman remains nearby.
At the first meeting of the Council on 24 May 2023, the first ever non-Conservative administration was elected in the Council's 50-year history. The Liberal Democrat Leader James Partridge was elected as Leader of the Council and the Greens' Leader Rachel Millward was elected as Deputy Leader of the Council, with leadership to rotate annually.
