Provision of education in the UAE began shortly after the establishment of the federation with the inception of the first university, the United Arab Emirates University, located in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) was a ministry of the government in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). [1] Established in 1976, the ministry had number of departments, including the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), which provided institutional licensure and degree accreditation CAA for private universities and their academic programmes in the UAE. [2]
The CAA is associated with the UAE Federal Government's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research [3] (MoHESR) and is based in the UAE's capital city, Abu Dhabi. Its jurisdiction includes all seven of the Emirates of the UAE and overseas campuses of UAE-based higher education institutions.
The department was initially established as an advisory council on education in 2005 by UAE president and ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with the aim of improving teaching standards in the emirate by increasing the quality of teaching, curriculum, and administration. [1]
