The Sauer 202 is a lightweight bolt-action rifle manufactured by Sauer & Sohn in Germany between 1993 [1] and 2015. The rifle was imported to the US by SIG Arms . This rifle has a modular construction which allowed easy replacement of components and caliber changes.
The Sauer 200 STR is a bolt action sport rifle based on the Sauer 200 receiver introduced in 1985. This receiver is CNC machined out of a single piece of steel and has been designed for maximum stability and is also used in several other Sauer rifle variants like the SIG-Sauer SSG 3000 and, slightly modified, in the 21st century Sauer 202 .
Sauer 200 has also been sold in Scandinavia under the name Carl Gustaf CG 4000. In 1993, Sauer 200 was replaced by its SIG Sauer 202. [2] The two rifles have many similarities, and for example, barrels are interchangeable. The rifle SIG Sauer 200 STR, which is the standard firearm within Det frivillige Skyttervesen, is partly based on Sauer 200.
The design which later was later to become the SIG Sauer 200 STR was favoured by the Scandinavian associations over what was later to become the SIG Sauer 205. The SIG Sauer 200 STR was launched in 1989, and became approved for Scandinavian rifle competitions from 1 January 1990 in the calibers .22 LR, 6.5×55mm and 7.62×51mm NATO.
