Haroon's mother was born in Christchurch, New Zealand where she trained to be an opera singer. She moved to London where she met Haroon's father. Haroon's grandfather, Abdul Rashid, established a reputed carpet manufacturing business specialising in handmade Pakistani and Persian rugs since 1947. Haroon's father, Zulfiqar, was one of eight sons.
