Pikes Peak is one of Colorado's 54 fourteeners, mountains more than 14,000 feet (4,267.2 m) above sea level. The massif rises over 8,000 ft (2,400 m) above downtown Colorado Springs. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.7 square miles (15 km 2), all of it land. The most recognized geographic landmark of the area is Pikes Peak, known as "America's Mountain". [13] There is access to the summit via the Pikes Peak Highway and the Pikes Peak Cog Railway. [14]
