Clerodendrum is a genus of flowering plants formerly placed in the family Verbenaceae, but now considered to belong to the Lamiaceae (mint) family. Its common names include glorybower , bagflower , pagoda flower and bleeding-heart .
The plant has been used in Ayurvedic medicine, and some Ayurvedic sources refer to it by the synonym Clerodendrum multiflorum. Clerodendrum phlomidis is a large shrub native to the Indian subcontinent and Myanmar. Clerodendrum myricoides from the same family is found in Africa and India. [3]
In cultivation, it is frequently known by one of its synonyms, such as Clerodendrum myricoides. [5] The cultivar 'Ugandense' is an untidy evergreen shrub growing to 4 m (13 ft) tall and 2.5 m (8.2 ft) broad, with oval leaves and masses of pale-violet blue butterfly-like flowers in summer and autumn. Each flower has a darker blue lower petal.

Clerodendrum floribundum, known as the lolly bush or smooth clerodendrum, is a shrub or tree found in Australia and New Guinea. Its habitat is in or at the margins of coastal rainforests, up to 300 metres above sea level. In Western Australia it grows in drier areas, such as rocky sites, gorges, cliffs, floodplains and creek beds. [4]
