Latanoprost, sold under the brand name Xalatan among others, is a medication used to treat increased pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure). [5] This includes ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma. [5] Latanaprost is applied as eye drops to the eyes. [5] Onset of effects is usually within four hours, and they last for up to a day. [5]
Latanoprostene bunod, sold under the brand name Vyzulta, is an ophthalmic medication used for the reduction of intraocular pressure in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
Bimatoprost is used cosmetically to increase eyelash prominence. Bimatoprost may be used to treat small or underdeveloped eyelashes. [3] [4] The medical term for this is treatment of hypotrichosis; however, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval is for purely cosmetic purposes (see Prostaglandin F receptor#Clinical significance).
The most common side effect is conjunctival hyperaemia (increased bloodflow in the outer layer of the eye), which occurs in over 10% of people taking the drug. Side effects in less than 10% of people include other eye problems such as itching, foreign body sensation or dry eye, as headache or hyperpigmentation (darkening) of the skin around the eye.
Latanoprost/timolol, sold under the brand name Xalacom, is a combination drug used for the treatment of glaucoma, consisting of latanoprost (increase uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor [3]) and timolol (a beta blocker decreasing the production of aqueous fluid).
Netarsudil/latanoprost, sold under the brand name Rocklatan among others, is a fixed-dose combination medication use to treat elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. [1] [2] It contains netarsudil mesylate and latanoprost. [1] [2] It is applied as eye drops to the eyes. [1] [2]
Latanoprost has shown ability to promote scalp hair density and pigmentation, [89] and is theorized to function at the dermal papilla. [90] A study found latanoprost ineffective on eyelashes in a patient with alopecia areata. [91] It has also been found ineffective in treatment of eyebrow hair loss. [92]
