Frederick Holbrook (February 15, 1813 – April 28, 1909) was an American farmer, businessman, and Governor of the State of Vermont.Active in politics and government, first as a Whig, and later as a Republican, he was most notable for his service as the 27th governor of Vermont from 1861 to 1863.

Holbrook revised the concept into a one-man show in the 1950s, debuting it at the Lock Haven State Teachers College in Pennsylvania in 1954. Holbrook and producer John Lotas were both young members of The Lambs Club in Manhattan; Holbrook performed the show in the club's 300-seat theater.
