Landmark on the Lake is a high-rise residential condominium building on Prospect Avenue on the East Side of Milwaukee. Construction of the building began in 1989 and was completed in 1991. [1] The building contains 275 condominiums on 27 floors. Landmark on the Lake is one of several large residential buildings on Prospect Avenue in Milwaukee.
Beginning in the 1870s, the area's economy began to diversify. In 1873, the Northwestern Union Railway laid tracks through present-day Shorewood along the eastern bank of the Milwaukee River. The railroad was a boon for local businesses, including the Milwaukee Cement Company, which began quarrying limestone on the bluffs above the river in 1876.
The original name came from the developer, John W. Mariner. The land upon which The Wisconsin Tower was built was originally purchased by John W. Mariner from brothers Thomas and John E. Saxe–famous Milwaukee theatre moguls. Mariner owned several businesses related to real estate, and died several months before completion of the Tower.
