The NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship is the annual tournament held by the NCAA to determine the top men's Division II College soccer program in the United States. It has been played annually since 1972; prior to that, all teams competed in a single class.
All Division II men's soccer programs were eligible to qualify for the 38-team tournament field. No teams received automatic bids; at-large bids are based on the teams' regular season records and the Quality of Winning Percentage Index. [2]
[1] [2] From 1959 through 1971, the NCAA had only one division for soccer; the Division II tournament was started in 1972, [3] and the Division III tourney followed in 1974.
