Douglas Lake with UM Biological Station at far end of photograph. Founded in 1909, it has grown to include approximately 150 buildings, including classrooms, student cabins, dormitories, a dining hall, and research facilities. It is the 28th largest lake in Michigan with an areal coverage of 3,395 acres (1,374 hectares) and a maximum depth of 79 feet (24 meters). The Lake has two tributaries, Bessey Creek and Beavertail Creek and one outlet, the East Branch Maple River. [3] Douglas Lake is part of the headwaters for the Maple River, a Blue Ribbon trout stream. [4]
The park is located along the Gordon McKenzie Arm [2] of Lake Diefenbaker and at the Qu'Appelle River Dam, which is the source of the Qu'Appelle River.
