Major General Robert Tryon Frederick (March 14, 1907 – November 29, 1970) was a senior United States Army officer.During World War II, he commanded the 1st Special Service Force nicknamed the "Devil's Brigade", and the 1st Allied Airborne Task Force an ad hoc division-sized airborne formation, commanding the task force as a Brigadier General during Operation Dragoon.
By May 1915 it was decided to prepare the 2nd Line TF units for overseas service, and 3rd Line training units were created to supply reinforcements to the 1st and 2nd Lines. At the same time the remaining home service and unfit personnel were separated and grouped into coast defence brigades, shortly afterwards termed provisional brigades.
During this time, the Task Force validated two of three partnered Iraqi Army battalions and was the first in the brigade to transition an area to Iraqi control.
