Stretching 148 miles (238 km) across the Florida peninsula, State Road 70 (SR 70) spans five Florida counties and straddles the northern boundaries of two more.Its western terminus is at US 41 (14th Street West) south of Bradenton (Manatee County); its eastern terminus is an intersection of Virginia Avenue and South Fourth Street (U.S. Route 1/SR 5) in Fort Pierce (St. Lucie County).
The full route of Bradenton Road and 15th Street in Manatee County was the original alignment of SR 683. [10] US 301 was extended south to Sarasota via SR 683 in 1953 with US 301/SR 683 running on a new alignment to the east from the Manatee/Sarasota County line south and entering Sarasota along Washington Boulevard.
Continuing east of I-75, SR 64 reduces to four lanes at Lakewood Ranch Road. At Lorraine Road, it becomes a two-lane road as it becomes a more rural route. The road turns straight east at South Second Street, and then runs along a pair of bridges over SR 17 (5th Street), Florida Midland Railroad tracks, and 4th Street. Access to SR 17 is only available through the aforementioned West Polk Avenue continuation from eastbound SR 60 and a half-diamond interchange with 4th Street from westbound SR 60.
