On May 28, 1869, a Five Lakes post office under postmaster William G. Stone, an inn-keeper, opened. The post office on April 6, 1874, was renamed to Asa but on April 29, 1878, returned to the Five Lakes name. [ 3 ]
Portage Point Inn Complex is a resort hotel located at the western end of Portage Lake at Portage Point, Michigan. In October 1985, this 1902 resort hotel and its associated buildings was added to the National Register of Historic Places. [1] It operates today as the Portage Point Resort.
The White Horse Inn was founded in 1850 and operated continuously for 162 years, until it closed in 2012. It was housed in the same building, built in 1850, the entire time. The Inn underwent an extensive renovation with a planned reopening in late 2014. [7] The entire Metamora community donated time and skill to the renovation.
It is bordered to the west by the CDP of Millers Lake. M-24 forms the border between the two CDPs; the state highway leads north 12 miles (19 km) to Mayville and south 9 miles (14 km) to Lapeer. Barnes Lake was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. [2] Previously, the community was part of the Barnes Lake-Millers Lake CDP.
