The Broward County Sheriff's Office (BSO) is a public safety organization with 5,400 employees, [2] it is the largest sheriff's office in the state of Florida. Sheriff Gregory Tony heads the agency. BSO was one of the United States' largest fully-accredited sheriff's offices before losing accreditation (by unanimous vote) in 2019. [ 4 ]
On November 4, 2008 Lamberti was elected the 17th sheriff of Broward County. As sheriff, he directed a 6,300-member organization with a nearly $700 million budget with responsibility for law enforcement and fire rescue duties within all 14 cities and towns and all unincorporated areas of Broward County.

Tony was initially appointed sheriff in 2019 by Florida governor Ron DeSantis, to fill a vacancy. In November 2020, Tony won election to the office of sheriff, which he had previously held by appointment.
