The Diocese of Amarillo (Latin: Dioecesis Amarillensis) is a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic church in the Texas Panhandle region in the United States. It is a suffragan diocese of the metropolitan Archdiocese of San Antonio. The mother church of the Diocese of Amarillo is St. Mary's Cathedral in Amarillo.
He served as the founding pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Dallas from 1956 to 1962. [1] He was named a Papal Chamberlain in 1961, and rector of St. Patrick Cathedral at Fort Worth in 1962. [1] On April 16, 1963, DeFalco was appointed fifth Bishop of Amarillo by Pope John XXIII. [3]
Three years later a chapel from an Air Force base was moved to the school property and became a chapel of convenience for the cathedral parish. St. Mary's Parish was started at the academy property in 1959. A new church was built for the parish in 1981 and it was destroyed in a fire on February 26, 2007.

The church was dedicated on October 18. As Amarillo grew it became obvious that Sacred Heart was in need of a new church.
