The Derby Stakes, also known as the Derby or the Epsom Derby, is a Group 1 flat horse race in England open to three-year-old colts and fillies. It is run at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey on the first Saturday of June each year, over a distance of one mile, four furlongs and 10 yards (2,423 metres), or about 1½ miles. [ 1 ]

The 1913 Epsom Derby, sometimes referred to as "The Suffragette Derby", was a horse race which took place at Epsom Downs on 4 June 1913. It was the 134th running of the Derby. The race was won, controversially, by Aboyeur at record 100–1 odds.
Gustavus (1818–1840) was a Thoroughbred racehorse that won the 1821 Epsom Derby. Gustavus was the first grey horse to win the Epsom Derby. He raced until he was four years old and was retired to stud in 1823. Gustavus was exported to Prussia in 1836, at the age of 18. Gustavus was not a successful sire.

The event is named after Diomed, the inaugural winner of Epsom's most famous race, the Epsom Derby. It was established in 1971, although it could be regarded as a continuation of a previous event, the St James Stakes. The Diomed Stakes is now held on the second day of Epsom's two-day Derby Festival meeting, the same day as the Epsom Derby.
Among his other Classic victories, he won the 1905 Epsom Oaks, a second Derby in 1909, and the 2,000 Guineas on three more occasions. In the 1909 Derby on 26 May, Jones rode Minoru to victory at odds of 7/2 in a field of fifteen. This was the first time a horse owned by a British reigning monarch had won the race.
Beadsman (1855–1872) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire.In a career that lasted from July 1857 to June 1858, he ran seven times and won five races. He was unbeaten as a three-year-old and recorded his most important success in the 1858 Epsom Derby.
