The eligible and selected candidates from all over Pakistan are sent to the academy for flying training.
The Royal Pakistan Air Force (RPAF) was established on 15 August 1947 with the independence of Pakistan from British India. The RPAF began with a paper share allotment of 2,332 personnel, a fleet of 24 Tempest II fighter-bombers, 16 Hawker Typhoon fighters, two H.P.57 Halifax bombers, two Auster aircraft, twelve North American Harvard trainers and ten de Havilland Tiger Moth biplanes.

The squadron was raised at its home airbase on 28 February 2018 and became the sixth squadron to be equipped with the JF-17 fighters. It was the first JF-17 squadron to be raised in the Baluchistan province hence its historic raising was celebrated with a grand inauguration which was attended by key officials including the PAF Chief, ACM Sohail Aman.
