Alsip is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 19,063 at the 2020 census. [2] It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Alsip was settled in the 1830s by German and Dutch farmers. The village is named after Frank Alsip, the owner of a brickyard that opened there in 1885. [3]
Crestwood buys Lake Michigan water from Alsip and its leaders have always boasted of its low water rates. A Daily Southtown story in 2005 about water rates found Crestwood's were the lowest in the Southland at $2 per 1,000 gallons. The average Southland water rate was $3.43 per 1,000 gallons. [47]

Central Stickney has one public school, Charles J. Sahs Elementary School, which serves grades K-8; it is the only school in Central Stickney School District 110. Students then attend Reavis High School in Burbank, four miles to the south, for grades 9–12. Central Stickney is also in the Moraine Valley Community College District 524.
Illinois's 3rd congressional district includes parts of Cook County and DuPage County, and has been represented by Democrat Delia Ramirez since January 3, 2023. The district was previously represented by Marie Newman from 2021 to 2023, Dan Lipinski from 2005 to 2021, and by Lipinski's father Bill from 1983 to 2005.
