The Triad varsity cheerleading squad won Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association (ICCA) state titles in 2001 and 2002 in the Medium Varsity division. In 2006, they became the first squad to win both state championships (ICCA and IHSA). That was the first year that the Illinois High School Association considered cheerleading a sport.
These high schools are members of the Illinois High School Association. The conference was established in 2016 with six former members of the North Suburban Conference ( Antioch , Grant , Lakes , North Chicago , Round Lake , and Wauconda ) and two former members of the Fox Valley Conference ( Grayslake Central and Grayslake North ).
The cheerleaders continued their winning ways by repeating that feat in 2011 and 2012, the only small varsity squad in the entire state to win more than once. In 2012, the Eagles cheerleaders also took first place in the Advanced Co-Ed Division of the NCA High School Open National Championship held in Louisville, KY.

In state competition, Maine South competes in the largest potential school classes in each sport sponsored by the Illinois High School Association.
