Rhoscolyn is a village and community located on Holy Island, Anglesey, Wales. It is just over five miles south of Holyhead and is the most southerly settlement on the island. The name Rhoscolyn is said to mean "The Moor" (Rhos) of The Column (colyn) , referring to a pillar which the Romans put up to mark the edge of their territories. [ 1 ]

The Home Farm at Penrhos was bought by Captain Nigel Conant, the estate's land agent, who continued to farm some 500 acres (200 ha) until its sale in 1969—for the development of the Anglesey Aluminium smelting plant. Anglesey Aluminium granted public access in 1972 under the direction of Ken Williams, a local policeman and amateur naturalist.
A short distance to the west of the village is the small lake Llyn Hafodol and a mile to the south is Anglesey's largest body of water the reservoir Llyn Alaw (Water Lily Lake). [1] The village once had a station on the Anglesey Central Railway. [2] Although the tracks still exist, no train has run on them since 1993. [3]

Church Bay (Welsh: Porth Swtan) is a settlement on the north-west coast of Anglesey, Wales, United Kingdom, about a mile and a half north-west of the village of Llanfaethlu. The bay shores are rocky but there is also a sandy beach which is popular with visitors. There are a handful of houses near the beach.
The Holyhead and Rhoscolyn formations are restricted to the Holyhead Mountain and Rhoscolyn areas of Holy Island. [3] The New Harbour Formation, which previously enjoyed 'Group' status, is some 2km thick and conformably overlies the Rhoscolyn Formation. It extends across much of northern and western Anglesey and Holy Island. [4]
