Goku eventually bests Frieza in battle and gives him a chance to leave Earth, but is blasted in the chest by Sorbet's raygun when his guard is lowered. Frieza stands over the incapacitated Goku, and offers Vegeta a chance to kill him to become his second-in-command. Vegeta refuses, transforms into Super Saiyan Blue, and attacks Frieza.

Goku saves Vegeta from being absorbed. As Vegeta recovers, Goku continues to fight the thought form of Super Buu. Goku is rapidly losing energy, and just as Super Buu is about to defeat Goku, Vegeta cuts down the pod containing the fat Majin Buu. This causes Super Buu to go mad, as without the fat Majin Buu absorbed, Super Buu cannot exist.
The two manage to defeat Goku before turning their attention to Future Trunks and Vegeta, both telling the former that his constant meddling in the timeline is the reason for Earth's misfortune. This infuriates Future Trunks, who explodes and transforms into an immensely powerful new Super Saiyan form, Super Saiyan Rage.
Thanks to the Kaio-ken x3 technique, Goku has the upper hand against Vegeta, which infuriates the Saiyan Prince. He decides that if he can't beat Goku, he will destroy the Earth, and flies high up in the air and fires his Galick Gun attack. Goku unleashes the Kamehameha wave, and the two energy blasts meet in midair.
