The Memphis to Little Rock Road-Village Creek Segment is a preserved segment of the historic Memphis to Little Rock Road military road in Cross County, Arkansas. Located entirely within Village Creek State Park , this 1.5-mile (2.4 km) segment of roadway is one of the best-preserved portions of the military road built in 1828.
The Memphis and Little Rock Railroad was chartered in the U.S. state of Arkansas in 1853. The line ran from Hopefield, Arkansas (now West Memphis) on the east, to Huntersville (now North Little Rock, Arkansas) on the west. The eastern third was completed in 1858 and the western third was built by 1862.
In West Memphis, Arkansas, I-40 is designated as a Blue Star Memorial Highway. Now in Pulaski County, I-40 heads toward the south-southeast as it heads to the town of Maumelle. It continues toward this direction until it reaches I-430, which provides access along the westside of Little Rock. [10]
