In 2011 Anya Schoolman founded the national organization that would become Solar United Neighbors. [5] In 2018, SUN partnered with the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) in support of the US National Solar Tour, a tour of operational solar systems. [7] By March 2021, the effort had installed solar panels for 5,200 homes in the United States. [8]
As of March 2021 Solar United Neighbors (SUN) [41] arranged group purchases of home solar panel installations for 60 groups of homes in Florida. [42] Group purchases are designed to help homeowners take action and obtain quality installations at competitive prices.
The SUN model has begun spreading to additional states, including Maryland and Virginia.
