The West Riding of Yorkshire was one of three historic subdivisions of Yorkshire, England. From 1889 to 1974 the riding was an administrative county named County of York, West Riding. The lieutenancy at that time included the city of York and as such was named "West Riding of the County of York and the County of the City of York". [2]
Barnsley Borough Police was the police force operating in county borough of Barnsley, England until 1 October 1968. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The force was merged with other forces in 1968 to form the West Yorkshire Constabulary .
Officers were sent to the West Riding Constabulary's Driving School at Crofton from the mid-1950s for driving training - this building was still used for the purpose until 2014 by Wakefield City and West Riding Constabulary's successors; West Yorkshire Constabulary and then West Yorkshire Police. The building is now vacant. [11]
He was Lieutenant Colonel during the Control Commission in Germany during 1945–46 and was seconded to the Special Police Corps in Germany from 1946 until 1950. [2] Stansfield served in the West Riding Constabulary (1950–56) before being seconded to the Cyprus Police Force from 1956 to 1959. [2]
