Roys was founded in 1895 when brothers Alfred and Arnold Roy opened their general store in the village of Coltishall. In 1899, a second store was opened in Hoveton. Following the deaths of the founders in the 1950s the business passed to Alfred's children with Fred Roy being appointed chairman and managing director.
Three other unit districts, in Atlanta, Danvers and Stanford, each had its own grade and high schools. [2] The new school district was approved by the voters by a ratio of 3-to-1 on November 12, 1966, and District 16 took over the school system on July 1, 1967. The voters then approved a bond issue of $4,000,000 in November 1967. [2]
