SPARQ was a US-based company started in 2004 to create a standardized test for athleticism called the 'SPARQ Rating' and to sell training equipment and methods to help improve athleticism focused on the high school athlete (an "SAT" for athletes).
The four-wheel drive system was designed and developed at BorgWarner under its TorqTransfer Systems division in the mid 1980s. [1] [2] [3] BorgWarner calls the system Torque-On-Demand (TOD). ControlTrac was the first automatic system to use software control and no planetary or bevel geared center differential. [1]
The first electric-powered torque amplifier was invented in 1925 by Henry W. Nieman of the Bethlehem Steel Company of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. [1] It was intended to allow manual control of heavy equipment; e.g., industrial cranes, artillery, etc. Vannevar Bush used Nieman's torque amplifier as part of his differential analyzer project at M.I.T in the early 1930s. [2]
These apparent advantages of the DTC are offset by the need for a higher sampling rate (up to 40 kHz as compared with 6–15 kHz for the FOC) leading to higher switching loss in the inverter; a more complex motor model; and inferior torque ripple. [1] The direct torque method performs very well even without speed sensors. However, the flux ...
The requirement for power input to an ideal mechanism to equal power output provides a simple way to compute mechanical advantage from the input-output speed ratio of the system. The power input to a gear train with a torque T A applied to the drive pulley which rotates at an angular velocity of ω A is P=T A ω A.
An over-torque condition pushes the balls out of their detents, thereby decoupling the shaft. It can have single or multiple detent positions, or a snap acting spring which requires a manual reset. There may be a compression adjustment to adjust the torque limit. Many cordless drills incorporate this type of torque limiter in a planetary ...
Torque multipliers only have a fraction of the final torque pressure on the drive tool making them a safer choice. Torque multipliers typically employ an epicyclic gear train having one or more stages. Each stage of gearing multiplies the torque applied. In epicyclic gear systems, torque is applied to the input gear or ‘sun’ gear. A number ...
Torque has the dimension of force times distance, symbolically T −2 L 2 M and those fundamental dimensions are the same as that for energy or work. Official SI literature indicates newton-metre , is properly denoted N⋅m, as the unit for torque; although this is dimensionally equivalent to the joule , which is not used for torque.
