The church of St Peter and All Souls is a Roman Catholic church in Peterborough, on Park Road, north of the city centre.It has been part of the Diocese of East Anglia since 1976, having fallen under the Diocese of Northampton from its building in 1896 until then. [1]
The original church, known as "Medeshamstede", was founded in the reign of the Anglo-Saxon King Peada of the Middle Angles in about 655 AD, as one of the first centres of Christianity in central England. [1] The monastic settlement with which the church was associated lasted at least until 870, when it was supposedly destroyed by Vikings.
