The Downtown Line (DTL) is a medium-capacity Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line in Singapore. It runs from Bukit Panjang station in the north-west of the country towards Expo station in the east via a loop around the city-centre. Coloured blue on the rail map, the line serves 34 stations, all of which are underground. [2]

[4] [5] In November 2013, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) awarded Contract T208 for the design and construction of Springleaf Station and associated tunnels to Leighton Contractors (Asia) Limited (Singapore Branch) – John Holland Pty Ltd Joint Venture (JV) at S$383 million (US$306.1 million).
The extension to the Downtown MRT line was first announced during the revealing of the Land Transport Master Plan 2013 on 17 January 2013. The line will be extended to what was known as the Eastern Region line (presently the Thomson–East Coast MRT line) by 2024, so as to enhance the accessibility between the two rail lines and allow commuters to conveniently make transfers.
