"Magic" is a 1974 song by Scottish pop rock band Pilot and was the first hit single for the group. It was written by band members David Paton and Billy Lyall for their debut album, From the Album of the Same Name .

From the Album of the Same Name (known as Pilot in the US) is the 1974 debut album by Pilot, containing the international hit "Magic" [3] and the minor hit, "Just a Smile" (UK #31, Australia #49, US #90). The album was initially released in 1974 by EMI, and later re-released on CD by EMI Japan in 1990 and by C5 Records (Chapter 5 Records), in 1991.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Lyall was a singer, keyboard player and flautist with Pilot, and co-wrote "Magic", Pilot's 1974 hit single. He contributed to the Alan Parsons Project with fellow Pilot members, and he was an early member of the Bay City Rollers. He was the keyboard player for Dollar between 1978 and 1982.
David Paton (/ ˈ p eɪ t ə n /; born 29 October 1949) [1] is a Scottish bassist, guitarist and singer. He first achieved success in the mid-1970s as lead vocalist and bassist of Pilot, who scored hits with "Magic", "January", "Just a Smile" and "Call Me Round" before splitting in 1977.
