The Filson Tin Packer Hat I bought last year is Made in USA, and the leather hat band is both glued and stitched on. The hat can be a little warm on a 90+ degree day, but so is any heavyweight ultra durable gear such as the leather boots I wear. It has a stiff brim just large enough to keep branches out of my face/eyes when crashing through ...
Washington State. Feb 23, 2019. #1. After about 4 years of rugged and frequent use, I decided to wash and re-treat my Filson medium brim tin cloth hat. It had become soiled with diesel and other assorted work filth. I soaked it in a sink of warm water with some oxy detergent powder, then scrubbed with a stiff plastic brush for about 20 minutes.
ND/MN. Dec 4, 2018. #15. I purchased a double Mackinaw wool Filson cap many years ago and thought they ran on the small size, at least the XL seemed to be on the small size. Might check around on a few Alaskan sites, as there are a few people trapping and making trapper hats from Lynx, Beaver, Wolf and maybe Wolverine.
Put the hat on your knee and pull with both hands inside the hat on the opposite side, rotating until you stretch the whole hat all around. It doesn't make a huge difference, but it does help a bit. That's Grampa's method of loosing up a snug hat. A hat stretcher is obviously better, I reckon. GrampaMike.

Moisten clean cotton cloth water, moisten leather, press moistened cloth into saddle soap in small circles to gather soap on cloth and gently work into leather. On a clean area of cloth moisten with water and rinse the area using small circular motion. Gently pat dry with a dry clean area of cloth. Allow piece to air dry then apply mink oil a ...
Jun 7, 2018. #1. I'm looking for a brown felted wool full brim bush hat but am having trouble finding one so, I am looking for suggestions. Don't want a brim lager than 2.5" and nothing to stiff or rigid, I like the idea of a "packer" or "crushable" hat. I was looking at the filson wool packer hat and the Pendleton wool Indy hat but, just ...
I've got a Filson Tin Cloth hat and it sheds rain even after it's soaked through. I get a little down my back because my head touches the top of the hat (on the inside) and water comes through. I'd say it keeps me 95% dry and I've worn it in some real downpours. It's usually paired with a poncho and I make sure to wear wool underneath.
Wanted to try out the canteen shop haversack i ordered and my new filson tin packer hat ( i had already been wearing that for a few days but it was finally sunny). So after class (only 32 days of high school left!) I dropped my friend off at work and drove up Gibraltar Rd. to a little before La...

I currently switch among a Filson tin cloth Packer, a Tilly T3 Bush Hat, and an old Dorfman-Pacific fedora-style hat I bought years ago. The Filson is my current favorite.
