Kenmare (Irish: Neidín, meaning 'the little nest') [8] [9] is a small town in the south of County Kerry, Ireland. The name Kenmare is the anglicised form of Ceann Mara, [8] meaning "head of the sea", referring to the head of Kenmare Bay. It is also a townland and civil parish. [9]

Kenmare is a rural locality of the Shire of Woodanilling in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The Beaufort River forms much of the western border of the locality, which reaches as far west as Albany Highway in two places.
A Special Area of Conservation, protects most of the basin of the Blackwater River.This is one of the areas in which the rare Kerry slug is known to occur. Other rare species which are protected by the SAC include the otter, freshwater pearl mussel, lesser horseshoe bat and Atlantic salmon.
It lies on the estuary of the River Sneem which expands here to Kenmare Bay. The N70 road runs through the town, which is approximately 22 kilometres (14 mi) west of Kenmare. While the 2022 census recorded a population of 386 people, [1] Sneem is located in a tourist area and the population increases during the summer months. [3]
It is situated on the banks of the Roughty River which flows into Kenmare Bay. The nearest town is Kenmare which is 11 km to the west along the R569 road. Killarney is 18 km to the north (but 30 km by road). Kilgarvan is part of the civil parish of the same name. [2]
