Tweet. #1. Wooden "Sunfish" Plans. 12-09-2013, 04:05 PM. In the March 1964 issue, Mechanix Illustrated published plans for something they called a "Funfish". 05-09-2017, 03:05 PM. Re: Sailing canoe with Hobie mirage drive - layout. I sail with just the longer turbo fins. I have to be moving along; if the waves are high and I sail close hauled there will be slippage because headway is too slow. Unity speed (Speed-Length ratio of 1) for this length is 4.75 knots which will require about 5 HP at the propeller.
I Pre Ordered a Set of Plans from Spira for a Mid Size Panga. I am still looking for 5/4. What I found was like you for Decking. But it is 5/4x6. I guess I could rip it to bring it down to size. But really would saving a little bit of weight between a 5/4x3 and a 2x3 worth the trouble? Also how much Strength will I loose by using the smaller wood?
2) Use 10mm 7 ply Sapelle for the bottom and protect it with glued on mahogany outer keel and oiled up, replaceable, (screwed into the mahogany) white oak to take the wear of beaching. 3) Build the Beachcomer Alpha dory described in Gardner's book. 4) Take lots of pictures of the build and post them on this forum.
