The High Kings is an Irish folk group formed in Dublin in 2008. The band consists of Finbarr Clancy , Brian Dunphy , Darren Holden , and Paul O'Brien. [ 1 ] As of 2023, the group had released five studio albums, four live albums, two live DVDs, and one greatest hits album.
Dunphy later became a member of the four-person Irish folk band The High Kings (2008–present), along with Finbarr Clancy, Darren Holden and Martin Furey. [2] The High Kings have released six albums and toured in the United States, Europe and Australia. Dunphy typically plays the bodhrán and the guitar in the group. [citation needed]
In 2013, The High Kings signed with Sony Music. As part of The High Kings, Clancy has performed before the presidents of the United States and the Republic of Ireland and has appeared on numerous television programs. [7] In addition to singing, he usually plays the guitar and sometimes the banjo with the group.
The High Kings album Friends for Life was released in 2013, and the opening track was a Holden original called "Oh Maggie", which became the most-played and downloaded song from the album in Ireland, the UK and particularly Germany. [citation needed] The album reached number 5 in the Irish Top 40, Number 3 on Billboard ' s World Albums chart.
As of June 2022, original members Murphy and Twigger are still in the band, joined by Ryan Lacey (since 2003), Pete Purvis (since 2005) of Merrickville, Ontario, and Natalya Kay (since 2022). As of 2024, Gaelic Storm has announced their new tour, “The Mighty Tour 2,” in which the band High Kings will accompany them.
The late 1980s were a difficult period for The Kings as they lost their drummer and their record label. Chris "Spoons" Daniels (born September 30, 1952) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. A member of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame, he is best known for his work with Chris Daniels & the Kings, a band he has led since 1984.
