Jingdezhen ware became particularly important from the Song period with the production of Qingbai (青白, "Blueish-white") ware. Jingdezhen is a prefecture-level city, in eastern Jiangxi province, with a total population of 1,669,057 (2018), [1] bordering Anhui to the north. It is known as the "Porcelain Capital" because it has been producing Chinese ceramics for at least 1,000 years, and for much of that period Jingdezhen porcelain was the most important and finest quality in China.
In the early 20th century, the development of the classic blue and white Jingdezhen ware porcelain was dated to the early Ming period, but consensus now agrees that these wares began to be made around 1300-1320, and were fully developed by the mid-century, as shown by the David Vases dated 1351, which are cornerstones for this chronology.
