The history of Baldwin University (1845–1913) starts in 1828 when John Baldwin moved to present day Berea, Ohio; at that time it was called the township of Middleburg. [1] In 1836, Baldwin worked with two Methodists to establish the Berea Seminary, which eventually failed.
