The Andreanof Islands were named after the Russian navigator, Andreyan (Hadrian) Tolstykh, who was the first European to explore the islands in 1761. There were several United States military bases on the islands during World War II. The bases on Adak were enlarged and made permanent after the war but were closed in 1995.
The Bullmastiff is an English breed of dog of mastiff type and large size, with a solid build and a short muzzle. It was developed as a guard dog in the nineteenth century by cross-breeding the English Mastiff with the now-extinct Old English Bulldog.
