Sussex County Courthouse is located at the corner of High and Spring Streets in Newton, the county seat of Sussex County, New Jersey in the United States. It is part 10th vicinage of the New Jersey Superior Court. [3] [4] It was originally built in 1765 and rebuilt in 1847. [5]
Newton Friends' Meetinghouse is the home of an active meeting of the Religious Society of Friends, who meet in a historic Quaker meeting house at 808 Cooper Street in Camden, Camden County, New Jersey, United States. On 26 October 1979, the First Presbyterian Church of Newton was placed on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places. [3] [4] It is also included as part of the Newton Town Plot Historic District which was approved and entered on the National Register of Historic Places on 12 November 1992. [2]
Today a private residence, Christ Church's first parsonage, built circa 1770, is the oldest home in Newton, New Jersey. Thomas Anderson House, built in 1785, houses the parish offices. Eighteen clergymen have served as rector of Christ Church, Newton. The first, Uzal Ogden, Jr., was the son of Newark merchant and churchwarden.
Fountain House was formally incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1948 following the purchase of a brownstone building on 47th Street (Manhattan) in Manhattan, which served as a clubhouse for WANA. A fountain in the backyard patio inspired the name. [8] In 1955, a social worker from Michigan named John Beard was named Executive Director. [9]
