Lake Mainit is the fourth largest lake in the Philippines, having a surface area of 173.40 square kilometres (66.95 sq mi). [ 2 ] [ 3 ] [ 4 ] The lake is also the deepest lake in the country with maximum depth reaching 223 metres (732 ft).
Neostethus thessa, locally known as bolinao, is a species of freshwater priapium fish endemic to Lake Mainit, Mindanao, Philippines. It is classified as Endangered by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species due to its highly restricted range which is threatened by pollution and the introduction of invasive species of fish. [1] [3]
The first inhabitants of Mainit settled near Lake Mainit in what is now barangay San Isidro (formerly called "Daang Lungsod" or "Old Town").
